Rusty in Orchestraville

European Union Youth Orchestra playing at Royal Albert Hall, public domain image

This album at Kiddie Records Weekly introduces young children to the instruments of the orchestra.   The unusual effect of instruments “talking” is achieved with the use of a sonovox.

Click here to go to Kiddie Records Weekly 2005, page down the left sidebar to March, Week 10 and click on the album title.   Look under the album cover for the links to launch the audio stream.

Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci for young people

Scene from the Opera Pagliacci, photo released to public domain

The Young People’s Opera House presents Pagliacci for the juvenile audience.  This program can be streamed from Kiddie Records Weekly. Page down to February week 9, then click the link.  Page below the album cover to see the links for launching the audio stream.

Here is a description of this opera from Kiddie Records Weekly:

This seldom seen label introduces an opera classic to the kids.  Composed by Ruggero Leoncavallo (1858-1919), it is the story of a sad clown who, betrayed by his wife, must make his audience laugh while he weeps behind a painted smile.  Driven to madness, his jealous rage brings about a tragic finale.

Tales from Uncle Remus on Kiddie Records Weekly

Brer Rabbit and the Tar Baby

For more Uncle Remus stories, go to Kiddie Records Weekly 2006. Page down to February week 7 and click the link.   Launch the audio by clicking the links below the album cover.

Br'er Bear and Br'er Fox

For still more Uncle Remus stories, go to Kiddie Records Weekly 2009. Page down to August week 33 and click the link for this album.

Stories about Brer Rabbit appear on many classic reading lists.   However, please be aware of the following caveat:

Description from the Kiddie Records Weekly site:

Uncle Remus was created in the 1800s by Joel Chandler Harris, who grew up on a plantation in the South during the days when slavery was still very much a part of life.   The first books Walt Disney ever read were the Uncle Remus stories and he brought them to life in 1946 with the release of Song of the South.   Because of it’s stereotypes, some have found this classic film objectionable and consequently it has not been shown in theaters for years, nor has it been released on DVD.
